Aerial surveillance network to cover Peshawar, Dera Ismail Khan, Bannu and Lakki Marwat

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police have connected their drone unit and anti-drone system to the Safe City project's central control room, allowing authorities to monitor aerial operations and detect suspicious drones in real time.

Police officials said this was the first time in Pakistan that drone and anti-drone systems had been integrated with a Safe City project. The arrangement is expected to strengthen security operations by improving surveillance and helping police respond to potential threats.

According to officials, the anti-drone system will monitor drones entering its radar coverage area. One system installed in Peshawar has a detection range of five kilometres. If a suspicious drone is detected, an alert will be sent directly to the Safe City control room.

The drone units will also help police keep watch over sensitive locations, traffic movement and areas where criminal activity is reported. Officials said the system would support round-the-clock aerial surveillance and help identify suspicious movements, criminal activity and potential security threats.

Police said similar drone surveillance arrangements would be introduced under the Safe City projects in Dera Ismail Khan, Bannu and Lakki Marwat.

Once operational, the connected systems will allow police to monitor aerial surveillance activities and ongoing operations in different parts of the province directly from the central control room.
